Chris Snyder's contract extended....almost
It's official... The Diamondbacks are CLOSE to locking up Snyder for at least three more years. The deal is expected to be around $14 million but it could exceed $20 million with the fourth year option.
Personally I think this is a great deal. We get maybe the league best defensive catcher at 5 mill per. I think he also lowers our team ERA quite a bit, if that is even possible. Sure his offensive production is the best but he should quite a lot of power splitting time and has potential for 25 homers playing all the time.
This could mean the end to Miguel Montero though, who we've been shopping anyways. I love Miggy but I say we dump him if the price is right (i.e. one of Boston's many great young arms.) Maybe, if were lucky, we can throw that blonde-headed stepchild in left field in.... ;)

Good.
I was wondering why it seemed like Snydes was never mentioned for an extension. I’m not convinced he’s really “the league best defensive catcher”, but he’s certainly ONE OF the best, on both sides of the ball — the kinda catcher who’d be playing in the All Star Game if he played for a big-market team.

No I'm convinced ;)
Jules: Tell 'em, Vincent.
Vincent: A (Eddie) Royale with cheese.
Jules: A (Eddie) Royale with cheese! You know why they call it that?
Brett: Because of the metric system?
Jules: Check out the big brain on Brett! You're a smart mother******. That's right. The metric system.
Sweet
an extension for Snyderman. The leagues toughest player… as evidenced by his fractured left testicle
An injury that will forevermore be known as....
….“the Snyder injury”.

Per Piecoro:
With his new contract, which guarantees him about $14 million for the next three years, perhaps he leaves a little money on the table. Perhaps he could have squeezed out a few more million had he gone through arbitration and free agency.
But Snyder must believe in the team around him, in the future of the organization. And clearly, the team believes in him.
I think Nicky P’s right — we’re getting a bit of a discount on a catcher who’s above average on both sides of the ball and yet still young and learning. I also have to think this deal makes Webby more likely to re-sign with the team; he has the certainty of getting his catcher back for the next few years — a catcher with whom he’s comfortable, and a catcher who’s willing to do all the preparation work for him.
Not that Webby’s motivation to re-sign has ever been in question, but it certainly can’t hurt. Now if we could just get the FO back to the negotiating table….

Jerry Crasnick
is reporting that the deal is done: $14.25 million guaranteed, with a $6 million club option for 2012.
