Happy Thanksgiving
That's all I got. ;-) Anyone doing anything interesting today? Otherwise, a generally open thread to express thanks for whatever you feel needs thanking...
I'll be back later, after a long, sustained period of munching on honey-baked ham.

TURKEY DAY WOO
Well, the wife and I are throwing a little party. We’re keeping it small as we’re only expecting 2 more people, so it’ll be turkey breast tenderloins, baked yams, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, and pumpkin pie. We have some snacks out right now (chips, dip, cheese, fruit, beer) and I’m watching the Lions football game right now.
After dinner will probably be some basketball and then either watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (my family’s Thanksgiving tradition) or going out ot watch Australia.
And happy Thanksgiving!
You keep on rowin', and I'll keep on smilin'.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Classic Thanksgiving movie. Great choice. I may just have to rent that on my way home from work. Yeah, someone’s got to work.
I'm too country for Terrelle Pryor.
Heh....
a Thanksgiving tradition: Watching the Lions lose and the Cowboys win.
I hate the Cowboys.

Die Hard
As Stephen Colbert would say, “Great action movie, or the greatest action movie?”
That’s the start of our Thanksgiving: we were rudely evicted from our room as SnakePit Jr. wanted to watch 24: Redemption and Dexter on the Tivo [as he put it just now, “I couldn’t possibly be more intensed”, so moved through to the living-room. I’ve just enjoyed my first beer, and am tucking into the chips and salsa.
Let us know what Australia is like…
And upon re-view...
The jury is still out. Die Hard is certainly among the greatest action movies of all time, but whether it beats Aliens or not, may depend as much on your definition of action, compared to sci-fi, for example. I’ll have to watch the latter again to decide. But there’s no doubt that Hans Gruber is one of the best cinematic villains of all time; Alan Rickman is at least as important to the film as Bruce Willis.

shoot the glass
Die Hard has long been in my top 3 action movie of all time. Terminator 2 has to get some play here too, eh? I am half-heartedly watching Oceans 13, despite never having seen the original Oceans 11, nor the two prequals to this movie.
Turkey is about to make its appearence. Catch you all later, happy thanksgiving.

Other possibilities
Demolition Man, Tremors, Starship Troopers, Army of Darkness, Mad Max 2 and Goldeneye.

My sister
is such a huge Die Hard fan that she bought the boxed set, and after seeing Live Free or Die Hard in the theaters in Chicago, she dragged me to go see it in Tucson. She’s hardcore like that.
The original Ocean’s 11 was too kitschy; the remake was good, and I never saw either of the sequels.

Re: Australia
It was pretty good, if a tad long (3 hours). I can’t say it’s a great movie by any stretch; although the images were grand, none of them were powerful enough to stick with me. I suppose after waiting five years for the next Baz Luhrmann film, and then sitting through 3 hours of story I was hoping for more. I’d say unless you’re a huge Luhrmann fan or just love Australian history, it’s better to wait on this one to come out on DVD.

My mom went to see it
with my great-grandma (my dad’s grandma, actually) and they both thoroughly enjoyed it?

I enjoyed it
but I enjoy long movies and Baz Luhrmann productions and theater, so I probably was going to enjoy it no matter what.

Cardinals getting slaughtered
i don’t normally watch football, but it was on, and the remote control was…well, remote. Not going so well so far for the local boys, getting crushed 21-0 in Philadelphia, barely out of the first quarter. While a playoff berth seems all but assured, the past couple of games seem to have shown what will happen when they encounter a good team. It isn’t going to be pretty.
Teams from the West Coast
are now 0-15 on the season when playing on the East Coast.
Cards made some mistakes early and just couldn’t recover on the road. (And Boldin had a pretty lousy game)

Also,
the Iggles were playing out of their minds….. they looked more like the 2005 Super Bowl Loser Iggles than the 2008 Iggles who tied the one-win Bungles. (Also losers)

All three games were pretty terrible
I didn’t have much hope for the first two, but I wasn’t expecting to see the Cardinals do so badly.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
It’s been pretty quiet around here; had dinner at my grandparent’s house, and tomorrow I’ll be heading down to Tucson for the rest of the weekend.
Some people have asked me why I haven’t contributed to the “Baseball’s Glass Ceiling” discussion that soco started, and the honest truth is that I just haven’t had time. Trust me, as soon as I have a moment, I will definitely be sharing my thoughts. (I know you’re all looking forward to that…)
And now, for the Jeff Dunham Christmas special and some homework.
Happy Thanksgiving. =)

Best part of my day...
by a long shot, had to be when my 15 year old brother came home with one of those Jones Soda holiday packs. (You know what I’m talking about— Turkey, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Green Bean Casserole, Cranberry Sauce) and proceeded to drink all of them, with varying looks of disgust on his face.
Good times. Haven’t laughed that hard in awhile.

Hmmmm....
actually haven’t seen one of those before, but it sounds like I’d definitely prefer the Sam Adams holiday pack.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!
I spent the day watching football and the Bizarre Foods marathon on the Travel channel, then having TG dinner with the parents. It was good times.

Just wondering...
Did your brother make it home? I had a few friends in school in other parts of the country that stayed because of scheduling issues…
That would suck.

Nope. He met up with my sister in Chicago,
and my sister and he met up with my two cousins who also go to college in Chi-town, and had TG dinner w/ my aunt and uncle who live in Naperville.

I'm glad to be done driving for today
Drove up to Flag this morning in the rather un-driving-friendly weather, hung out with the family at my little sister’s apartment, watched the dog show on TV, was generally disappointed in the football games, and had a nice dinner with everyone before driving back down to Surprise in similar weather and having key lime pie. Whew.
But a good day.
