It hurts.
I was one of the few who was not sentimental or upset about Gonzo’s departure. However, I love RJ, and the statement released by his agents literally had me tearing up. It’s a sad, sad day in Diamondback land.
Never give up. Never give in.

It ain't over yet
We still can negotiate with him. Johnson just needed to file for free agency, because today was the last day possible. I think he still wants to stay here, and I think a deal may well end up getting done. It’s in everyone’s interests.
I agree.
It was just sad to read what could very well be the end result.
I really hope RJ decides he has enough money as is and wants to finish it all with the Diamondbacks, no matter the cost.
Never give up. Never give in.

However...
“The Diamondbacks’ offer…was believed to be in the $2 million to $3 million range.” — Link
Seriously?
Offering him less than Brandon Lyon made last year? That’s fairly insulting.
"I'm here to advise you on dispensing horror in this modern military climate. I understand you're a demigod, that's fantastic!"
I'd rather
the Diamondbacks make an offer within their budget than worry too much about Randy’s ego.
We are gonna get drunk with Adam Dunn and we're gonna head-butt some damn kangaroos.
I'd rather
that they say, “Randy, we’re sorry, but we just don’t have the money to make you a worthwhile offer right now, maybe we can talk again after we figure out the second base situation” than go with something insultingly low.
"I'm here to advise you on dispensing horror in this modern military climate. I understand you're a demigod, that's fantastic!"
Isn't
that essentially what the article said? I don’t see the big deal of, “hey we know you deserve more but this is what we have. You want it?” And then he said no.
“The Diamondbacks have a budget based on their club’s financial situation and obviously viewed Randy’s contract in that context,” the agents said. “Randy considered every reasonable compromise, including offering to take a 50 percent pay cut, all to remain a Diamondback. However, the economic situation did not lend itself to an agreement.”

All right.
That better not be true. The $4-$5 mil we heard originally was bad enough (although as a basis for negotiation it wasn’t terrible). Two to three million is f-ing embarrassing.
Agreed.
At least give him a close-to-fair offer. What an embarrassment.
Never give up. Never give in.

Piecoro's article
makes it seem like there is no hope for RJ to return….
Not happy at all with that.
An ounce of run support this season past though and his run to 300 would be a moot point right now, imo.

Damn
That’s the epitome of unintelligent analysis or commentary, but it’s all I got.
To see Randy end his career with another team and reach 300 wins (a given next season barring horrific injury) makes my stomach turn. If we let him go I will enter a depression lasting several pints of Ben and Jerry’s. If we can’t offer him what he deserves because of giving Jon Rauch a contract I will be very very upset.

"There's a chance we might try to find another person that would add to our depth," Byrnes said.
Boy, I’m sure looking forward to that.
Yeah....
It sucks that they can’t sign him for 3 mil. One more season, to win his 300 would’ve been great
