Interesting game so far.

Little bit of offense, little bit of pitching, Kazmir taking 8,000 pitches to get through five innings. Probably about what we expected.

Big K of Howard there

I like this new tradition

of having military singers sing in the 7th inning. It’s much more meaningful to them, and it’s much more likely that the person can actually sing well instead of trying to do too much to impress the audience.

Uh-oh

I think Philadelphia might win the series. Why? Because according to Yahoo, the Rays have an edge in the “Intangibles” category. In every series this post-season, Yahoo has said that the team that would eventually lose had an edge in Intangibles.

Seriously, that’s an impressive streak.

Of course, the fact that the Phillies are something like 1 for 23 with RISP so far this series helps.

Jim Caple is a columnist for ESPN.com whose stories routinely feature fake quotes from people in the sports and entertainment world.

Fake quotes? Can we trust a man like this with our future, and our children’s future? Not to mention the part of our future that overlaps with our children’s future- that part is extra important.

Fake quotes? If he can fake quotes, he might as well fake his whole name. Who are you really, “Jim Caple”? Or maybe you just don’t want us to find out.

Yeah, exactly

Man, did you see the mud on that Upton stolen base? That’s horrible.

They wouldn’t really call a World Series game after 6, but they could have a rain delay, right?? That makes the most sense.

by snakecharmer on Oct 27, 2008 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions

That field looks terrible

I really, really hope they get to finish this game…

by snakecharmer on Oct 27, 2008 10:11 PM EDT reply actions

Doesn’t look too much better in the stands.

That stolen base looked like a Spring Training play

Just in how there was practically no reaction from the defense.

And it reminded me, free taco tomorrow at Taco Bell.

That kid is pretty fast

From the hit, I expected it to be a close play at the plate, especially given the condition of the dirt.

Wow

39 degrees and Upton basically surfs into second – his bow-wave got there perceptibly ahead of him. Game tied now, so I guess the Rays might be more inclined to settle for a delay at this point.

Hall of Famer Whitey Ford now on the field pleading with the crowd for some kind of sanity.

Makes sense

They really didn’t want to end the World Series on a rain-delay; has that ever happened before? This way, they’ll just finish the game off tomorrow, if necessary.

by Jim McLennan on Oct 27, 2008 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

Bob DuPuy interviewed

They’d like to finish the game tonight, but they’re not optimistic, it may rain this poorly all night. It’s officially a suspended game, it would continue tomorrow or even Tuesday. I wonder how that would work.

We’re getting “TMZ”, which is such a stupid show. How much fun is it to watch them all chat at their cubicles? If I wanted that, I’d watch “The Office”. Besides, “Cops” is entertaining. You just can’t believe how ignorant/low class/obnoxious some people are.

Abandoned the TV entirely

I’m researching Bollywood versions of Western movies. Did you know there’s a Hindi version of Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels? Or one of Basic Instinct? The mind positively boggles

by Jim McLennan on Oct 27, 2008 10:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Or Fight Club?

I always reckon, if you’re going to do a remake, you need to bring something new to it.

That certainly counts as “new.”

by Jim McLennan on Oct 27, 2008 11:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Bwah?

I’m not really sure what to say to that, other than “What? Why?”

On the other hand, is it really that different than taking a samurai flick and changing it into a western?

-Stephen Fry

by kishi on Oct 27, 2008 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess it depends

It just seems that so much of what made Lock, Stock or Basic Instinct successful [and, indeed, fun] would not translate too well to the Hindi culture. Samurai films and westerns are more or less the same, just with swords instead of guns [gross simplification, but you see my point] I mean, they can’t even show people kissing on screen, so that’s all the two most memorable scenes of Basic Instinct right out the window.

by snakecharmer on Oct 27, 2008 11:32 PM EDT up reply actions

To no great surprise

This is proving a viewing disaster for Fox. Despite its closeness, Game Three was “the lowest-rated in the history of television, by a comfy margin. The game averaged 6.1 percent of U.S. households, beating the previous low of 8.0 for Game 1 in 2006.”

Game Five Finale Postponed

Again, until Wednesday at the earliest. Weren’t they supposed to be playing in Tampa on Wednesday?

I was glad, at least, to see that Bud wasn’t going to let the Series end on a shortened game. I’ll put that in my (scant) file of “Things Bud Selig has done that I’ve been in favor of.” Okay, my scant file of “Things Bud Selig has done that I’ve been in favor of, and acknowledge.”

Also, memo to Jeff Passan: What, first the Rays didn’t have enough fans, and now the fans they have aren’t good enough? Shut the hell up. I’m tired of hearing about what fans should and shouldn’t be doing to support their team, or how not enough fans are showing up. You know what? The fans who are there are there because they love the team and the game. The fans who aren’t there? Aren’t reading your articles, jackass. So the fans have cowbells, so what? Gasp, shock and horror at the mohawks. They’re %#@&ing enjoying themselves, so why not let them? Don’t give me more of this “Tampa doesn’t deserve this” BS, because it doesn’t matter- they’ve got it, and you just need to deal with it and move on. Instead, Tampa doesn’t deserve this BS from you and every other columnist out there.

People whine

about Arizona fans just as much (and sometimes even here) but I agree completely. There’s no point in putting your own expectations on other fanbases, so let them have fun.

Jeff Passan's article

What bothers me is the elite attitude about the fans and the stadium, even the city. Come on, it’s a game, people are having a great time watching it and getting involved with the players. Cowbells? Fun! Rally Monkeys? Fun! Sure they can get annoying but it’s all in good fun. Get over your holier than thou attitude.

Since they didn’t beat the Yankees or the Red Sox, we’ll probably still have to hear the same “the NL is a weaker league” spiel next season.

I suspect not, since the Rays tied it up again in the seventh, after he left the game.

JC Romero

For the win. :-) So, F-Rod and Randy remain the only pitchers with five post-season wins in the same series.

The cool thing would've been, though

that all 5 of Hamels’ wins would’ve been starts, and he’d have been the only pitcher to do that. Too bad, that would’ve been really neat.
