Keith Foulke?

There was an interesting blurb in the paper today about the DBacks watching Keith Foulke throw next month.  Apparently, Qualls will set up and either Lyon or Pena will claim the closer's job.  Foulke may be brought in for depth.  Good story below:

At first, I thought it was a terrible idea.  But look at FOulke's numbers from his hey day.  If he truly is over the knee and elbow problems, he may worth the risk of a one year deal.  No?

No
And I can name quite a few reasons why not.  Emiliano Fruto, Leo Rosales, Bill Murphy, Max Scherzer, Billy Buckner, Yusmiero Petit, Mike Schultz, Jailen Peguero, Adam Bass, Brandon Medders, Mark Rosen, Brooks Brown, and Clint Goocher.

Those are all of the players the Diamondbacks could throw at the last bullpen spot.  Each would likely cost a quarter or less of what they would have to pay Foulke.

Double No
If not only for all of the reasons nihil67 stated, then how about the fact that Foulke is no longer in his "hey day" and also never pitched in Chase Field when he was putting up the kind of numbers you wish Arizona could add.

....Plus, I like the possibility of having a player named Gooch on the roster.

Two more reasons
I'm not sure more are needed, but how about Foulke's HR rate over his career (1.63 HR/9) or the fact that he's 35?  No, thanks.

Whoops
His career HR/9 is 1.036.  1.63 was his HR/9 in Boston in '06.
