New HD Display at Chase Field

I know this was covered before here, but it looks like we have some more details on the new screen in centerfield. It looks as though the Dbacks and Daktronics are going to be able to deliver the "biggest and best" screen in MLB, if not all sports stadiums in the US.

I definitely like the fact that they can have two 16:9 screens right next to each other....lets just hope they actually show replays this year or this is a big waste of money....

Check out more info Here if you want

If they hadn't gone out and gotten Haren...
...I would have been pissed at them for getting this.

Should be sweet to watch, at least if they don't use it for stupid stuff like telling us when to do the Univision Wave. Some actual replays would be nice... but not entirely expected, since it seems baseball doesn't want us second-guessing the umps.

Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

I thought
that the new screens are being paid by the sports commission, so it's not money that would even have anything to do with personnel.
Stay grindy, my friends.

I thought...
...they're splitting the cost?

I'm not certain
The Tribune said "The new board likely would be funded by the Maricopa County Stadium Authority with help from the Diamondbacks." Emphasis added; I haven't heard any more specifics than that. I'll reserve judgment until I see exactly how it's going to be used: it should be used to educate the fans (they'll have room to post OPS on the board now!) but could also just be another source of advertising to beat us over the head. The truth will likely fall somewhere in the middle...

Room to advertise that
sometime they will show the OPS?

Well....
If the Stadium Authority is paying, then I don't have anything to complain about. You Maricopa County taxpayers, on the other hand....

Let's just make sure..
...Richie Sexson doesn't hit anymore home runs in Phoenix.  Just to be on the safe side.
I'm not superstitious- it's bad luck.

And not just for the scoreboard's sake, either...
Richie Sexson.... ugh...

Yeah
Disliking Richie Sexson is becoming a tradition in my family- my older sister is a Mariners fan.

I would imagine...
...AZSEAFAN feels the same way.

The guy the phrase..

That
is going to be ridiculous.

I don't think
It's an official mock-up - but just gives you an idea of the size (f'n huge, in case you hadn't gathered!) and how it'd fit into the current set-up.

If they were smart
They'd get this thing up and running before the Super Bowl and have themselves a party.  You could probably recoup a decent amount of the cost on admission alone.

That's a really good idea
Don't know if the NFL would go for it, but sounds like it'd be a lot of fun.

You Don't Have to be the NFL ...
To have a super bowl party ...

Although, it does help to call it a 'SuperBowl' party.  Silly technicalities.

My company had our Christmas party on Chase Field just over a month ago, and I can tell you that there was NO work on it at that point, so I hope it's a fast instillation into next year.

I think they'd need NFL permission, at least
Found the link I was looking for:
http://football.about.com/b/2007/02/01/nfl-strikes-down-church-party.htm

The NFL made a church cancel their Super Bowl party last year- they say you can't broadcast the game on anything larger than a 55 inch screen without their permission.

I'm not superstitious- it's bad luck.
