Clark instead of Jackson
That'll be because Clark is hitting .600 against Young. Er, in five at bats.

Okay, all three of his hits have left the yard, but none of them were in Petco. If he hits one out tonight, I'll be mollified, but otherwise, expect venom to drip from my lips.

I notice
The BaseballReference.com preview actually has Hernandez 2.0 listed as the starter... I'm not sure I'd really want that, though his last outing was by no means so bad.

Helped by Cameron's gaffe on the basepaths, and Gonzalez swinging at a 3-0 pitch out of the zone, and popping it up. Nice to know it's not just us who do that. Still, that gets Davis's ERA down below four. It's been a while...

Good question
I think he still gets the RBI even though he didn't get a hit but I could be wrong.  Anyone?

by batster on Aug 30, 2007 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions

In more detail
The official rulebook of Major League Baseball states:

    (a) The official scorer shall credit the batter with a run batted in for every run that scores
    (1) unaided by an error and as part of a play begun by the batter's safe hit (including the batter's home run), sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly, infield out or fielder's choice, unless Rule 10.04(b) applies;
    (2) by reason of the batter becoming a runner with the bases full (because of a base on balls, an award of first base for being touched by a pitched ball or for interference or obstruction); or
    (3) when, before two are out, an error is made on a play on which a runner from third base ordinarily would score.
    (b) The official scorer shall not credit a run batted in
    (1) when the batter grounds into a force double play or a reverse-force double play; or
    (2) when a fielder is charged with an error because the fielder muffs a throw at first base that would have completed a force double play.
    (c) The official scorer's judgment must determine whether a run batted in shall be credited for a run that scores when a fielder holds the ball or throws to a wrong base. Ordinarily, if the runner keeps going, the official scorer should credit a run batted in; if the runner stops and takes off again when the runner notices the misplay, the official scorer should credit the run as scored on a fielder's choice.

It's when...
The pitcher either 1. throws the ball through the "strike zone", or the batter 2. swings and misses the ball, breaking the plane of home plate, or 3. the batter swings, hitting the ball, which then goes outside of the foul lines.

Win!
Good to find a win without sitting through the finger bitting innings... must have been "fun"! & OMG look at the number of posts!

Um...
_"..without sitting through the finger bitting innings.."

No I'd call the 8th and 9th definite nail-biters!

I don't think I caught the sarcasm
But if you did have some, then yes you're right. ;)

416?
When will the madness end???
Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

Not to pad this thread even more...
But I just realise we have the best record in the NL at the moment, so despite losing this series we are still looking (relatively) good.

Funny thing is.....
We've had the best record in the NL, on and off, for quite awhile, but I cannot quite remember the last time we didn't have the most wins in the NL. Even when we haven't had the best record, we've been 3rd overall in wins, behind the BoSox and Halos.
Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

Oh.....
I'd like to just remind us all of this little ditty from Jim's writeup of yesterday's game:

Quote of the day: "You can't dwell on what happened the past three games. We're going to forget about today and go out there and try to put some numbers on the board." -- Mark Reynolds

If nothing else, Mark Reynolds sure walked the talk tonight.

Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

In other news....
Former Dback and Sidewinder Chris Capuano loses his franchise record 12th straight for Milwaukee.

well
There is more padding here then on an American 'Footballer' note the contempt ;)

I Go away to a music festival and find the D Backs have fallen apart, only to snatch victory from the jaws of a blowout victory :D

Haven't been able to watch many of the games but seems the pen has imploded and the offence (spare tonight) has gone to sleep...what happened :O

Tippecanoe and Pena too! (let's hope pena doesn't die after 30 days in office)

I saw that on the GLB thread....
Your response to their snakehead "enjoy first while you have it, Dbacks" message. Very nice. :-D

The late staying Friar Fans
Got their moneys worth and more.

There is some very large holes on this Dbacks team that need repair.

Pena is completely out of whack.  He is into pitching batting practice.  He is showing great signs of having the BP _im disease.  He couldn't throw a strike if his life depended on it.

Cruz is also approaching batting practice quality.

Slaten is not effective even if he is left handed.

When you ahead by one or two runs, don't you want to mix up your pitch variety, eventhough you have only 2 pitches, PooPoo Grande?

Let's see, you up by 8 runs going into the 7th inning; your starter has been pushed to 100+ pitches and has 2 outs.  Smelvin has a total of 7 outs to finalize the game and then we have a major leak in the system.

The final 2 1/3 innings were Hell for the Dbacks and exciting for the Friars.

The Rocks come to town.  Let's hope we can get this turned around and righted.

well
if you remember at the beginning of the season what was the GLARING WEAKNESS of the Dbacks ball club? The back end of the bullpen. So IMO we're gonna have some major breakdowns along the way. None of our back end are very experienced in high pressure games
