Carlos Gonzalez Update!

CarGo, according to Baseball Prospectus, has gotten hot and it appears he'll stay that way. His line now reads .283/.324/.475 in Double-A Mobile.

And now I quote Kevin Goldstein:
"Gonzalez' up-and-down season at Mobile looks like it's now permanently in 'up' mode, as the Venezuelan has hit .338/.393/.567 in his last 40 games. Early in the year, Gonzalez seemed to be going through the motions at times, but Justin Upton's brief tenure and the arrival of Aaron Cunningham may have been the reason for Gonzalez to step up his game. On a tools level, there's nothing to complain about, as Gonzalez has a smooth, fluid stroke, above-average power, good range in right field, and a cannon for an arm. If the effort remains at this level, Gonzalez could put up some monster numbers in the Pacific Coast League next year, and give Arizona more questions than answers when it comes to their outfield of the future. It's a nice problem to have."

Wow....
CarGo's now at a .960 OPS??

Could be more bad news for another Carlos.

Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

That was
for the last 40 games. His season OPS sits at .799 which by itself is depressing. His recent surge is what everyone has been expecting out of this kid. Hope he keeps it up because we stand a good chance of having the best group of outfielders for a few years.

The surge is nice
But let's see how he handles AAA next year.

Triple-A?
It's vastly over-rated. I mean, Upton and Reynolds didn't stop there, so why should CarGon? Look what it did to Carlos Quentin...

Yup
alot of organizations have their studs completely skip AAA.

My bad....
Ah, last 40 games. Serves me right for hurriedly checking the 'Pit when I was supposed to be doing Arabic hw.
Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

Because
the casual fans may be misled by the Gonzalez name and think they brought in Gonzo. They would dance in the streets of beautiful downtown Phoenix.

nice...
...to have Carlos putting some in house pressure on outfielders.  And he's nice insurance in case Justin does what his brother BJ did... took a nose dive in his first professional year and then took two years to fix the spiral.

or be better trade bait
Carlos is just making himself worth more as trade bait for pitching help. Who do you think would bring more Carlos Q or Carlos G?

Today
Probably Gonzalez, but I think it's pretty close to equal.

Too soon to say.
If you remember that Cardinals fan who came over to the Pit to ask us what we thought of trades, he was salivating over the chance to grab Quentin, even though Q was still barely over the Mendoza line then.
Come on, Sandy Baby, loosen up. You're too tight.

Wouldn't sell Quentin
That'd certainly be selling low right now. His value can't really drop any further, so ride it out, and see what happens in 2008.

Agreed
He wouldn't be the least likely candidate to turn it around.
