Another deadline deal, but we finally came to terms with our first-round pick, according to the Republic:

Cool.
He sees that all of a sudden we're one of the top teams in the league, so he wants on board.
About the "Estimate"
I just hope he now lives up to his promise.

Looks to me like the D-Backs caved here, which I think is fine. I'd rather throw that kind of money at a prospect with Max's upside than a middlin' reliever... but I certainly could be proven wrong here. It is a lot of money, no doubt.

Looks like a compromise to me
Thats about as close to meeting in the middle as you can get. Neither side caved. They compromised and did the right thing.
I didn't think they would get there. I was on record as being pretty sure Scherzer was going back into the draft. So glad to be wrong, yet again. ;)
Now the question of when?
I know Baseball America had him at a closer/reliever instead of a starter, but I wonder how he will be groomed in the minors.
This could be a powerful young rotation next year with Webb, Pwnings, Sherzer, Johnson (last year of his deal) and Davis with Gonzalez/Gonzalez and Yesmit battling to get in.
He will not be a starter
Great signing!
