First Impressions

Being the online nerd that I am (and the online student), I came across this website and decided to become a member.  I live, eat, sleep, drink Dbacks baseball, so naturally I'll spend time throughout the season posting diary entries about the team and other various topics.  I live in Tucson, AZ and I'm a 24 year old director at a private college here in the "Old Pueblo."

Now that the season is just about 20 games old, we're starting to see some things.  I'm pleasantly surprised by the work of our bullpen.  Other than Brandon Medders (who for some reason doesn't feel right on the mound unless he gives up a leadoff HR), it has been sensational.  Even Valverde's blown save wasn't really his fault if Byrnes makes a catch or a ground ball doesn't sneak under a glove.  Starting pitching has also been good, with a team ERA of 3.68 (there's that magic number: 3.6).  Some people out there will understand that joke.

What isn't good?  Well, our offense has been inconsistent.  Our team batting average is .249 and slugging is a paltry .370.  Alex Rodriguez has as many home runs as our entire team (12).  However, we also have the 2nd youngest team in the major leagues, so growing pains are to be expected from the kids.  Hopefully they can ride this out for awhile and turn it around.  So far, it reminds me of 2003...a team that turned out phenomenal pitching, but could not score runs.
