I notice more than a smattering of insults to Bob Melvin, and though I neither love nor hate the man, I'm just curious of the origins. People contend he's an idiot, that our team is lucky to win in spite of him, and I'd like to hear arguments as to why this seems to be the prevailing opinion.
I can understand that opinion about Bob Brenly; in a way we were lucky that we won in 2001 with him calling the shots, perhaps more of a result of the talent that we had. I can understand people thinking this about Dusty Baker, as the man has dubious ideas about how to work a pitcher.
I can understand perhaps merely saying, "Bob Melvin is an okay coach, but perhaps isn't our best option as someone who manages the game." But the hyperbole that is thrown in his direction? Why?
