Gameday Thread, #55: 6/03 vs Braves

bordercolor=#6335a0
Claudio Vargas, RHP (5-2, 5.44)
John Thomson, RHP (2-4, 3.75)

Good news: We won the morning set! Now guranteed a split of the series, we head forward for the win and, fingers crossed, the sweet.

Better news: We've had a lot of success as a club against Thomson, including 54 runs in 11 games, all starts. Davannon is the featured player of success against Thomson, with 3 HR, 5 RBI, and a .455 average in 11 at bats. He gets the start in right field tonight.

Grammar and me ...
Don't get along, we want the sweep ... that would be sweet :) Line Up: C. Counsell SS E. Byrnes cf L. Gonzalez lf C. Jackson 1b J. DaVanon rf D. Easley 3b O. Hudson 2b C. Snyder c C. Vargas p I'd call the only surprise DaVanon in for Green vs. Gonzo, and I'd think Tracy could play two in a row, but his K rate might be appreciative. Snyder get's the start, doen't it seem like he and Vargas pitch together a bit?

I just got the news too ...
Illusions of Webb, no? Second start, first carrer victory, vs a east coast legend on the road, wins the day game, and is activated for an older pitcher. Kinda eerie.

clap... clap... clap
Woo, there's that crack(pot) GM of ours at work again.  We finally get a young guy that looks like he can hack it... lets send him down for a 50 year old lefty that has proven he can't anymore and represents exactly 0% of this organization's future.

Hey, look at that, Kevin Jarvis is still on the MLB roster too and has yet to pitch an inning!

Not to mention that some other lefty that's quite a few years younger has been doing pretty well down in Tucson...

by nihil67 on Jun 3, 2006 7:13 PM EDT reply actions

This sucks
I mean, he was doing very well in the Majors. I mean, he could have been an underdog to win the ROY (maybe...). He had a 1-0 record with a 2.25 era. I mean, that is better than El Dooque. I guess Jarvis will pitch in his place until Buss Ortiz comes up.

Nothing for a lefty
It's saddest that it's that hippy burnout Terry Mc that looks like 'Rusty Knuts' from "Meet the Fockers". He's a southpaw ... who cares? He's deffinatly not a lefty specialist. Guys like Little G mean we need to rely less on guts like Terry Mc.

This is the worst part
Would I rather have Mulholland being brought out of the pin to do...not a whole hell of a lot, or would I rather have Kiki pitching lights-out as a starter?  Do I really have to answer that question?

by webby17 on Jun 3, 2006 8:27 PM EDT reply actions

The double-header screwed up the rotation
Because there are no rest days in the next 11 games,  either Enrique or Vargas would have had to pitch on short rest.  They'll probably give Jarvis a start instead and don't be surprised if Jarvis is sent down for Enrique (or [gulp] Ortiz) after that start.

by William K @ AZ Snakepit on Jun 3, 2006 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

They'll bring back...
Ortiz over Gonzalez.  Just you watch.  They're not going to admit how badly they f'ed up by signing Ortiz.  As much as they're paying him, they're not going to let him go in favor of a rookie.  As much as I'd prefer Gonzalez be brought back up, it will not happen as long as both Ortiz and Mulholland are on the roster.  Unless someone else gets hurt, we won't see Gonzalez again for a while, IMO.

I hate seeing that kid struggle--and not just for the team's sake.  I hope he gets it back on track, for his own sake and because Julio may not be the answer.  I've heard Baltimore fans just ream him as horrible.  I'd like to see Jose earn his spot back.

Phew ...
We got away from a horrible bullpen showing from the 'B' crew, and a effective outing by Valverde to get a automatic guy like Julio in. Personally, i'll be looking for Miggy to throw a complete game tommrow after some of the abuse Today on that bullpen. We've won the series, and we are 6 and 3 on the road trip ... looking for the sweep on Sunday, how great is this? :)

I think we should count our blessings with Julio for now.  This guy was a train wreck in Baltimore and didn't fare much better in New York.

by nihil67 on Jun 4, 2006 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly
There are certainly fans who are more bitter towards a fan than Baltimore fans are towards Julio, but they're still pretty bitter.  He's doing alright so far.  Hopefully the change of scenery has done him some good, but I'm hardly thinking he's the answer to our closing prayers.  Personally, I'd far prefer for Papa to get back on track--which I think he will.
