Terry Mulholland and David Wells
"The Diamondbacks and LHP Terry Mulholland have reached a preliminary agreement on a minor league contract."
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5218808
Last year:
59 IP, 4.27 ERA, BB/9 2.59, K/9 2.75
Probably nothing more than a calculated risk for a LOOGY so don't go crazy. Remember, Joe Garigiola would have given him a two-year deal.

"The Boston Globe reported that the (Diamondbacks) may have interest in trading for Boston SP David Wells."

A plausible rumor but a rumor indeed. The only player Boston would probably intersted in is Craig Counsell to fill hole at short. Shawn Green perhaps but highly unlikely at this time or a later time too.
Last year:
184 IP, 4.45 ERA, BB/9 1.03, K/9 5.23
I wouldn't mind having him.

funny thing
David Wells can eat a bowl of d**ks.
Well, as least there does appear to be a system...
Even if it's not one to which I personally subscribe. I guess Byrnes subscribes to the theory which says most relievers are basically equal. Nice though it'd be to pick up a Bobby Jenks, he may be a flash-in-the-pan - and even if not, you can't expect to get a pitcher like that on the waiver wire, any more than you can expect to find another Johan Santana in the Rule V draft.
As for Farnsworth he signed a three-year contract with the Yankees for $17m, which shows you how mad the free-agent market is this season. Waving $800K at a pitcher if he does well in spring training is a better investment. [An irrelevant aside: do a Google search for Kyle Farnsworth, and check out the middle result of the "Images" section at the top. Is that what Anonymous Hero means by "questionable social skills"? :-)]
