Rangers get Padilla from Phillies

Padilla is 51-51 with a 3.95 ERA in 194 career games (111 starts) over seven seasons with the Diamondbacks (1999-2000) and Philadelphia.

Padilla was an All-Star in 2002, when he was 14-11 with a 3.28 ERA, and he followed that by going 14-12 with a 3.62 ERA in 2003. He is just 16-19 over the last two seasons.

Padilla made $3.2 million last year, and is eligible for salary arbitration.

The TEXASS RANGERS are on Crack Cocaine.

I now understand why A-DUD left to be with the EVIL Empire.

Padilla was a stiff when he was with the D-backs.  He didn't prove to be much better with the Phillies.  I think they kept him around just to say that he was worth the exchange for Schilling.

The TEXASS hotplate from the HOT STOVE league just boiled over.

I think I will trudge over to the Lone Star Ball and see how they'yall are doing with this latest gem of a transaction.

It's nice to see...
...we don't only get rid of good pitchers [hello, Capuano, Patterson, Penny] but mediocre ones as well. :-) Though should I also point out that Padilla actually has more wins, fewer losses, and a better career ERA than 5 yr, $55m man AJ Burnett?

Padilla vs. Patterson
Padilla's ERA (and his ERA+) has been going the wrong way for four straight years now.
  1. 3.28
  2. 3.62
  3. 4.53
  4. 4.71
Sure, we could have used him the past couple of year, but that says more about our wretched pitching over that time than anything. He seems to be a much better reliever than a starter for some reason. He should be coming into his prime, and for some reason or other it doesn't seem to be happening. You're right, a "stiff" is probably too much, but on his form of the past couple of years, he's not much more than a journeyman: going forward, I'd take any of the trio I mentioned ahead of Padilla.
